img The San Jose ASCE Younger Member Forum (YMF) is a network for young civil engineering professionals in the Silicon Valley.

The San Jose American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) YMF is designed for young professional members to have the opportunity to network with peers, facilitate professional development and become involved members of the local community.

Andrew Easterling
YMF Position: President
Employer: Mark Thomas and Company

Andrew is the President for the San Jose Younger Member Forum. He graduated from San Jose State University with a B.S in Civil Engineering in 2012 and from University of California, Irvine with a M.S. in Transportation Systems Engineering. Andrew works as a transportation engineer at Mark Thomas and Company, specializing in the design and analysis of transportation and traffic operation projects. He has been an active member in ASCE and has participated in a variety of roles with since he was a student.

Andrew loves the opportunities to work with enthusiastic and inspiring young engineers, who will become the future leaders in the civil engineering industry. He hopes to continue the success of San Jose YMF and to promote ASCE and the civil engineering profession throughout the community.






Aziza Amiri
YMF Position: Vice President
Employer: City of San Jose

Aziza Amiri will be on her second term as the Vice President of ASCE San Jose YMF. Aziza graduated from San Jose State University (SJSU) in 2012 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. She was an active member of the ASCE Student Chapter and was also involved in the Engineering Earthquake Research Institute’s seismic design competition and was the Treasurer for the American Concrete Institute.

Aziza started her career working for Wood Rodgers, Inc. obtaining three years of experience in water resources. She assisted in preparing and executing hydraulic modeling programs for flood analysis for Alameda and Sacramento County as well as preparing drainage reports for new development. Aziza left the private sector to venture on a new journey working for the public sector. She is currently the Project Manager for various capital improvement projects with the City of San Jose. Aziza’s objective is to give back to the community that has been a vast part of her life.

Aziza looks forward to providing support to the array of networking events, engaging members in community service opportunities, and expanding student outreach – all in efforts to bring together young professionals in the field of Civil Engineering.

In her spare time, Aziza also likes to play volleyball, attend sporting events, travel, and hang out with family and friends.

Roshan Shukla
YMF Position: Treasurer
Employer: City of San Jose

Roshan is the treasurer for the San Jose Younger Member Forum. He graduated from San Jose State University (SJSU) in 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering. He was previously the President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) in the SJSU student chapter.

Roshan is a project manager in the Department of Transportation (DOT) for the City of San Jose. He is currently involved in the design and construction of several federally funded grant projects which focus on multi-modal transportation improvements that incorporate complete street design. Roshan has also worked in the Pavement Engineering section of DOT, managing approximately $50 million in pavement rehabilitation projects throughout a 2,400-mile street network.

In his spare time, Roshan enjoys hiking, outdoor photography, and watching Formula 1.

Kari Nelson
YMF Position: Secretary
Employer: Kimley-Horn and Associates

Kari is the Secretary for the San Jose Younger Member Forum. She graduated from the University of Arizona with her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2015. She joined ASCE as a student at U of A, holding several chair and board positions but focusing her efforts on publicity outreach. Kari joined Kimley-Horn and Associates directly out of college and has been working with the firm for just over a year. She works with the Land Development team providing engineering design and support to a variety of retail, residential, and commercial projects around the Bay Area. Kari looks forward to an exciting year with the SJ YMF and hopes to help the group continue to flourish.

Chris Wong
YMF Position: Webmaster
Employer: Peoples Associates Structural Engineers

Chris Wong is the ASCE San Jose YMF Webmaster and SJSU Student Outreach Liaison. Chris is an engineer for the Mission Critical Studio at People's Associates Structural Engineers. During his undergraduate career, Chris became very involved with ASCE and Chi Epsilon as the Project Manager for the Concrete Canoe team and also the President of the Chi Epsilon chapter. He also ran for the club track team at SJSU. Aside from school, Chris enjoys many outdoor activities including, but not limited to: soccer, skiing & snowboarding, and rock climbing.
