img The San Jose ASCE Younger Member Forum (YMF) is a network for young civil engineering professionals in the Silicon Valley.

The San Jose American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) YMF is designed for young professional members to have the opportunity to network with peers, facilitate professional development and become involved members of the local community.

Aziza Amiri
YMF Position: President
Employer: City of San Jose

Aziza Amiri will be on her second term as the Vice President of ASCE San Jose YMF. Aziza graduated from San Jose State University (SJSU) in 2012 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. She was an active member of the ASCE Student Chapter and was also involved in the Engineering Earthquake Research Institute’s seismic design competition and was the Treasurer for the American Concrete Institute.

Aziza started her career working for Wood Rodgers, Inc. obtaining three years of experience in water resources. She assisted in preparing and executing hydraulic modeling programs for flood analysis for Alameda and Sacramento County as well as preparing drainage reports for new development. Aziza left the private sector to venture on a new journey working for the public sector. She is currently the Project Manager for various capital improvement projects with the City of San Jose. Aziza’s objective is to give back to the community that has been a vast part of her life.

Aziza looks forward to providing support to the array of networking events, engaging members in community service opportunities, and expanding student outreach – all in efforts to bring together young professionals in the field of Civil Engineering.

In her spare time, Aziza also likes to play volleyball, attend sporting events, travel, and hang out with family and friends.

Kari Nelson
YMF Position: Vice President
Employer: Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc.

Kari is the Vice President for the San Jose Younger Member Forum. She graduated from the University of Arizona with her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2015. She was an active student chapter leader, holding several chair and board positions but focused her efforts on publicity outreach and hosting the 2015 PSWC conference at the U of A.

Kari is currently working as a civil analyst for Kimley-Horn. She works with the Land Development team providing site civil design and support to a variety of retail, residential, and commercial projects around the Bay Area. She is currently working on the Menlo Gateway project in Menlo Park, which will be used as a supplemental Facebook campus.

Outside of work, Kari enjoys traveling, hiking, exploring, and eating. Kari looks forward to an exciting year with the SJ YMF and hopes to help the group continue to flourish.

Marina Chekmareva
YMF Position: Secretary
Employer: Vali Cooper & Associates Inc.

Marina is the Secretary for the San Jose Younger Member Forum. She graduated from the University of California, Davis with her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2010. Marina is excited to work with the Civil Engineering community throughout the South Bay and inspire upcoming engineers.

Marina is currently an Assistant Resident Engineer for Vali Cooper & Associate, Inc. She works with various clients providing construction management and inspection services.

Marina looks forward to an exciting year with the SJ YMF and hopes to help bring together young professionals and contribute to the community around us.

Chris Wong
YMF Position: Webmaster
Employer: Peoples Associates Structural Engineers

Chris Wong is the ASCE San Jose YMF Webmaster. Chris is a project engineer for the Mission Critical Studio at People's Associates Structural Engineers. His current projects are large scale data centers located around the country. Outside of work, Chris enjoys many outdoor activities including, but not limited to: soccer, skiing & snowboarding, and rock climbing.

Brandon Coco
YMF Position: Treasurer
Employer: City of San Jose

Brandon is the Treasurer for the San Jose Younger Member Forum. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 2014 with a BS and MS in Civil Engineering. Brandon an Associate Engineer in San Jose Public Works Department and works on a variety of Storm and Road design and construction projects. His favorite project right now is installing several large trash capture devices throughout the City in order to comply with the Water Board requirements for trash reduction in the creeks.

Brandon has been involved in the SJ YMF for 2 years as a board and chair member. He hopes to promote and expand YMF with successful events and outreach so others can reap the benefits of being involved in YMF just as much as he has.
